Parent Questions
The things parents actually ask us.
What are the benefits of online school for my child?+
An online school for grades K–5 provides young students with a highly personalized, flexible, and engaging learning experience designed to meet each child’s individual needs and learning pace. Unlike traditional classrooms where one teacher must divide attention among many students, AI-powered learning platforms can provide instant feedback, personalized lesson support, interactive activities, educational games, videos, and adaptive instruction tailored specifically to each student. Students receive 24/7 academic assistance through AI tutoring tools like BRYTE, which can explain concepts, answer questions, provide homework help, and reinforce learning without students having to wait for extra help. AI-driven online schools also allow families greater flexibility, reduce distractions and bullying often found in traditional schools, and help students build confidence while learning in a safe, supportive, and technology-rich environment that prepares them for the future of education and digital learning.
Does Excel K12 offer live online courses? +
Excel K12 does not offer traditional live online classes because modern online education has evolved far beyond students sitting in front of a webcam for hours each day. Today’s online courses are designed to be interactive, flexible, and engaging through the use of multimedia lessons, educational videos, activities, games, assessments, and AI-powered learning support. Students learn at their own pace while receiving personalized assistance from BRYTE AI tutoring, which can explain lessons, answer questions, provide homework help, and support students throughout the learning process. This flexible model allows students to learn anytime and anywhere while still benefiting from a high-quality, technology-driven educational experience designed for the future of online learning.
What involvement will I need to have as a Parent?+
Elementary students in online learning programs require active parental involvement, especially in the early grades, because young learners still need structure, encouragement, and daily guidance. Parents should expect to play an important role in helping their child stay on schedule, log in each day, complete assignments, and maintain consistent learning routines. However, parents do not need to become full-time teachers or subject matter experts. With BRYTE AI tutoring integrated into the learning experience, students receive personalized academic support, homework help, lesson explanations, interactive tutoring, and guided study assistance directly within their courses. BRYTE can answer questions, explain concepts, generate practice activities, and provide additional support whenever students need help, allowing parents to focus primarily on supervision, accountability, and creating a positive learning environment at home while the AI handles much of the day-to-day tutoring and instructional support.
How do online elementary students make friends?+
Many parents wonder how elementary students in online schools or homeschool programs make friends and socialize. The reality is that socialization happens in many places beyond a traditional classroom. Students in online and homeschool programs often build friendships through sports, church groups, homeschool co-ops, music lessons, martial arts, dance, scouting programs, neighborhood activities, clubs, community events, and extracurricular programs. Modern online schools like Excel K12 also provide opportunities for students to connect through virtual classrooms, student clubs, live lessons, collaborative projects, and online communities. These experiences allow students to develop communication skills, teamwork, confidence, and meaningful friendships while learning in a flexible educational environment.
How much screen time does my child actually have?+
Most days include 3–4 hours of focused screen time, broken up by hands-on activities, outdoor breaks, art projects, reading off-screen, and movement.
